To improve the European competitiveness, the reduction of energy costs is a strategic point. Energy efficiency in the industrial processes allows to obtain the reduction of primary energy consumption, to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and to improve the strength on the market. The directive 2006/32/EC of European Parliament and of the Council highlights the role of the Member States to ensure the availability of efficient energy audit schemes, designed to identify potential energy efficiency measures, applied to all end consumers, including SMEs. But while several efforts have been made on the front of standardization for building auditing and to energy certification for building, the industrial audit for SMEs still needs a specific scheme and tools. Involving partners from Austria, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Slovakia, LiCEA aims to find results useful for SMEs in the Central and other European Regions.
The cornerstone of LiCEA is the state of the art in energy auditing applied in a life cycle perspective with help of the SMART tool - specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound, in other words LiCEA tool. Typically, an energy audit is an inspection, survey and analysis of energy flows for energy conservation in a building, process or system to reduce the amount of energy input into the system without negatively affecting the output. The added value of LiCEA applied to SMEs, is the addition of the life-cycle perspective allowing the new energy saving opportunities.
